Recognizing our Grandparents

This weekend we celebrate National Grandparents Day! It is a day to recognize grandparents across the country for their love and guidance. Grandparents take on many responsibilities, and in some cases, are responsible for raising their grandchildren. According to the UC-Berkeley Center on Aging, over the last ten years, the number of children living with grandparents increased by 50 percent. Whether part-time or full-time custodians, it is important that grandparents are given the resources they need to age in place and support the needs of our future generation.

The Elder Index measures the cost of what an elder or elder couple needs to make ends meet, and accordingly more income and supports are necessary for grandparents raising grandchildren.
